The Double Cask 18 is a complex yet smooth malt with a creamy body and soft mouthfeel. The finish is moderately long, with a pleasant warming sensation and notes of oak and sherry. Located near Graigellachie, the Macallan distillery obtained its first license to distil thanks to Alexander Reid. The Macallan distillery is nestled on the banks of the river Spey, at the heart of Glenlivet, cradle of the great malts.
Macallan 12 years old Double Cask has a rich aromatic palette with spicy and woody aromas that combine notes of vanilla, butterscotch, candied orange with dried fruits and the sweetness of honey. He wanted to understand and make understand the importance of the provenance and quality of wood to achieve a beautiful creation. To understand the complexity and nuances of this whisky, The Macallan distillery wanted to compare the development of the precious spirit to a guitar's making by partnering with Philippe Debreuille, a famous manufacturer of custom guitars and wood expert. This 12-year maturing has brought to Macallan Single Malt 12 years old Double Cask the aromas of both oak varieties and the sweetness of Sherry. Its perfectly balanced character has developed thanks to its 100% maturation in Sherry casks made from European oak and American oak. This whisky has a fresher, sweeter and richer style than the other distillery's signatures thanks to its aging.
